Apple Gradebook workaround

Data Team -

Originally from ticket #8645.

There is a known issue with Apple computers where the gradebook does not function because Java is no longer an authorize developer for the apple environment. In addition, there is a current Java version issue to also consider.

The workaround does come with a warning. By following these steps you will be enabling your computer to download and run applications not authorized by apple from the internet. This workaround disables apple's software security check. What that means is do not download anything from the internet without knowing it is safe safe and reputable source. The App Store is apple recommended source for all apple software needs.

Perform the following steps to allow your mac to launch the gradebook.

  • Open System Preferences.
  • Select Security and Privacy
  • On the General pane, locate the 'Allow applications downloaded from' setting.
  • Change setting to "anywhere" to allow the gradebook to use Java on your computer.
  • Close the System Preferences window.

Once that's done, you should be able to start the gradebook through PowerTeacher again.
